A Look At Online Accounting Schools
You may be surprised to learn that you can study to get your accounting
degree online, without the need to leave the comfort of your home. Earning your
degree can be achieved using distance learning and online schools from a variety
of qualified, accredited universities or colleges.
Please note: Not all online schools are accredited and/or recognized as being
suitable learning bodies. Before committing yourself and, more importantly,
handing over any money, ensure that the qualification that you’re about to give
“your all” to attaining is going to be worth more to you and your prospective
employer than the paper it’s printed on. There are six regional and a number of
national accrediting agencies, which review educational programs. If in doubt,
ask your would-be college or university to show you some evidence of their
accreditation.
The Advantages Of Learning Online
If you have a full-time job to hold down or have to care for your family or a
sick loved one then, this is where distance learning really comes into its own.
You can study in your spare time so you can fit your study-periods around the
rest of your life. I know some people who get out of bed an hour or so earlier
than usual and do their studying before their day begins. Others prefer do it
last thing before they go to sleep. You could even study instead of watching TV
or going out for an evening. That’s the beauty of it, you can do it when it
suits you and you’ll never get told off for being a few minutes late for your
class.
How Far Can You Go?
Online accounting schools offer their students a chance to aim for the same
qualifications as attending classes in a traditional college or university
would. Diplomas, certificates, and associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and
master’s degrees are all attainable through distance and online learning. Any of
theses programs will allow a student to prepare for either entry level or
advanced level accounting positions.
There are also courses available for those wishing to specialize in more focused
areas of accounting such as financial planning, financial management and for
those wishing to become Certified Public Accountants.
What Are The Disadvantages?
To my mind there is only one major disadvantage to online studying or distance
learning and that is that the student has to be extremely self-disciplined. It
is by far easier to make progress when your lessons are given in a classroom.
When you’re on your own it’s very easy to give up when the going gets tough
because there are no tutors or classmates to help pull you through and no one
but yourself to ensure you do the work.
If you aspire to becoming an accountant and your circumstances dictate that
attending a regular college or university is out of the question, online
accounting schools may well be the answer to you’re looking for.
